According to a report by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), New York is the second-largest movie market in the United States, with an estimated 8.1 million moviegoers in 2019. This suggests that there is a significant interest in cinema in the city and a growing interest in independent and artisanal cinema, leading to an increase in the number of small-scale film screenings and events.
