Problem Space

Many New Yorkers struggle to adhere to proper recycling, reusing, and donation practices, due to inadequate knowledge and accessibility to pertinent information, compounded by varying collection days across locations.

This lack of information contributes to heightened waste generation and environmental consequences, highlighting the pressing need for a solution that streamlines processes and encourages sustainable behaviors.

Survey and Interview Insights

The recorded audio from the interviews was transcribed and used as codes to carry out affinity mapping, as the next step.

Consumers lack awareness about recyclability, leading to improper disposal and increased contamination of recycling streams.

The inclination to donate is impeded by the absence of reliable and trustworthy avenues for charitable contributions, exacerbating waste buildup and constraining the redistribution of usable items.

Users frequently forget garbage collection days, resulting in waste left in public areas, attracting pests and creating health hazards.

Product packaging often fails to provide comprehensive and understandable disposal instructions, resulting in confusion among consumers and acting as a deterrent to the adoption of conscious waste disposal practices.
